It is possible that David WRAY died in the first quarter of 1863 (GRO ref: Bridlington 9d 212).

Capt. Oates, who died on the ill-fated expedition to the South Pole in 1911, lived at Low Farm, now divided into two houses.

Erratum: John CROMPTON should have been recorded as widower and, possibly, Eliza WRAY as widow.

There is no obvious reference to Eliza WRAY in the 1881 census. It is possible that she died in the third quarter of 1875 (GRO ref: Bridlington 9d 239).

Emma JEFFERSON

Emma was born in February 1873 (GRO ref: Driffield 9d 303). She was accidentally killed by her father in the first quarter of 1880 (GRO ref: Driffield 9d 222).

Driffield Times
Saturday January 24, 1880
As Mr John JEFFERSON, farmer, Ruston Parva, was fitting a cap onto his gun, it accidentally discharged and the shot hit his youngest daughter, Emma, aged 6 years and 11 months, just as the child was stepping from the staircase.   She was hit in the thigh, making an entry wound about the size of a walnut and where it came out; the exit wound was the size of a florin. The bone, nerves and blood vessels were entirely destroyed and the child died later that night.
