EMIGRATION;
Alan probably expected an elder brother to inherit the farm so looked to the new world for a farm of his own.

In February 1912 Alan went to Australia and was plowing in Sydney.
However soon after he had joined his siblings in NZ
1914 voters register Tolaga Bay, Gisborne working for Mr Bartram,
father of his future. bride. Alan served in WW1.

Owen Edwin Bartram landed in Christchurch.
Married 1892 Iris Elizabeth Caldwell.
Later moved to Tolaga Bay and eventuslly owned 3 sheep stations.

Trooper G. S. France, who is going as a specialist, will be in charge of the mounteds, and Corporal G. I. Parker will be in charge of the infantry.
