Two Taranaki men mentioned in dispatches for distinguished service against communist terrorists in Malaysia were Sgt Bruce HILL (new Plymouth) and Private Harvey BOYLAN (Hawera).

Harvey served in Malaya 1957-59 he was 24 when discharged
has a daughter Joanne Boylan in Hartigan
