S.M. COURT, HAMILTON. Monday - Before Mr F. O'B Loughnan, S.M. Obscene Language. W. Crawford was charged with using obscene language at the Town Hall on the 27th March. Mr Northcroft appeared for accused, and pleaded guilty, but offered evidence of provocation in mitigation of the offence. Cecil Millington Crawford, son of defendant, said he was at the Town Hall at a theatrical performance and met his father. Witness deposed to hearing him use obscene language. He accused him of not having kept an appointment made to consider the purchase of a horse. He said he had been there. Accused then called him a liar, and used expressions derogatory to his own wife and the mother of witness. He shortly afterwards struck him. William Williams deposed to having seen accused strike his son. He was boarding with accused's wife. After hearing evidence, which showed an unhappy state of domestic relations, the Magistrate said that the son of accused had been very impertinent, and accused was justified in striking him. It was proved, however, that he had used obscene language. He was fined .£2 and 15s costs, and given three weeks to pay.

OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON, Wednesday, A. charge of breaking and entering the mercery shop of Cecil Millington Crawford, Cambridge, and stealing a large quantity of men's clothing and suitcases, to the value of £58 4s, was preferred against James Bernard Lawless, aged 26, Labourer, Frankton, before Mr. Wyvern Wilson,' S.M., in the Hamilton 'Magistrate's Court to-day. Cecil Millington Crawford, mercer, Cambridge, gave evidence that the goods mentioned in the charge-sheet had been stolcn from his premises in Cambridge between March 14 and March 16. A panel of the back door had been smashed, Detective-Sergeant Thompson said he arrested the accused on March 29 in a boarding house. The goods were found under accused's bed. Accused pleaded guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court at Auckland for sentence
