OBITUARY MR. GEORGE WADDEL (O.C.) TE AROHA, Friday The death has occurred of Mr. Georgi Waddel, aged 78. Born in Auckland in 1863, Mr. Waddel was educated at St. Matthew's Private School and Wesley College, After serving an apprenticeship as a baker with his father, the late Mr. W. R. Waddel, who for a term served as Mayor of' Auckland, Mr. George Waddel left New Zealand, and took part in the gold rush at Koolgardie. He later followed his trade in Sydney and Melbourne, eventually returning to Auckland to enter business on his own account. He disposed of this business to accept a position as clerk of the Court at Coromandel, and, after spending a long period in that district, was transferred to Auckland, where he was employed for many years in the bailiff's office. He came to Te Aroha 30 years ago and took up the baking trade again. He later worked in Morrinsville until the time of his retirement. His wife died in 1925. Mr. Waddel is survived by four daughters. There are nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. |
