The wedding was held recently at the Anglican Church, Karori, Wellington, between Leading-Aircraft-man Selwyn Houghton, third son of Mrs Houghton and the late Mr R. P. Houghton, of Koromatua, and Doreen Elizabeth Stanford, youngest daughter of Mrs Stanford and the late Mr A. Stanford, Devonport. The bride’s sister was in attendance and Mr Ralph Taylor, Cambridge, acted as best man.

Selwyn died 9th October 1944 at Guadalcanal

Bourail Memorial, panel 4, New Caledonia Island ( an island some 1000 miles south)

Son of Roland Paul Houghton and of Ellen Ada Houghton (nee Jacka);
husband of Doreen Elizabeth Houghton, of Devonport, Auckland, New Zealand.
Known to be buried near Avu Avu Missin Church, near Guadalcanal,
and whose grave is now lost.

BURNS, Wesley John. Suddenly passed away Friday 26 June 2015, aged 71.
Dearly loved son of the late Selwyn Houghton, Doreen and Bob Burns. Loved father and father-in-law to Alistair, Belinda and Matariki, Bo and Brendon, Matthew, Lisa and Richard, and Selwyn. Adored Poppa of Sophie, Grayson, Kaira, Anika, Lucy, Charlotte and Melody.

Wes will be welcomed onto the Piritahi Marae, Blackpool, Waiheke Island from 4pm, Wednesday 1st July. People are welcome to attend the Piritahi Marae. The Service will commence Thursday 2 July at 11am at the Piritahi Marae, following on from there, Wes will be buried, then a final get-together at the Waiheke RSA.
The family want to gratefully and personally thank the staff at the RSA, the Waiheke Ambulance and all the locals and friends that were with Dad and helped in those final few moments.
Time to start your next journey now Dad, you will be missed literally by thousands, but most of all missed by your kids. Rest in peace.
