Death of a Crimean Veteran, Teignmouth Lieut-Colonel J. A. Scott, who has just died at Glenfallock, Teignmouth, joined the army on the outbreak of the Crimean War, and served there with the transport department. After considerable foriegn services, he retired, whilst stationed at Devoport, with the rank of Lieutenant-colonel. For 28 years he had rsided at Teignmouth,m and up to recently held the office of treasurer of the local Tennis and Croquet Club. He was the son of Mr. Alexander Scott, of Scotston, Perthshire, his mother being a Campbell, of Perthshire. He married a daughter of the late Mr. William Douglas , of Kilsythe, Ayreshire, who he survived by a few years. A son, in Canada, and five daughters mourn their loss . Of the latter one is the wife of Colonel Aplin, R.A. of Budleigh Salterton, another married Major Greenlees, Dorset Regiment, and the other wedded Dr. Davies, son of the late General Davies, of Ashleigh, Teignmouth. Miss Scott, who untill recently was superintendant of the local infant Welfare centre, is the oldest of the two unmarried daughters, the youngest being in India. Colonel Scott was 83 years of Age. |
