Margaret Isabella Campbell
Margaret and her mother and 4 siblings moved to the Pupu Valley, Takaka, Golden Bay, approximately December 1908 by coastal shipping from Dunedin, then from Nelson to Waitapu by paddle steamer. They joined their father Charles and 2 eldest siblings Thomas and Donald Cumming who had all moved with Charles in 1900. He’d been commissioned by the Takaka Sluicing Company to manage a gold sluicing operation at the Pupu.

They lived in rented accomodation in a 2 storey house in Waitapu Rd, set in 3 acres of grounds for 6 months, before shifting up to the new house in the valley. It had been moved onto site and was habitable February 1907.
