Harbour Board Chief Harbour Master Burgess reported that certain differences had arisen between Pilot William Burgess and William Jenkins, coxswain of the pilot boat, which, in the interests of the public service, should be made a subject for special enquiry, especially as regarded what took place on Wednesday last. —Agreed to hold an enquiry, the date to be fixed. |

Harbour Board Late Pilot Bubgess.— Salary for six months had- been voted to Pilot: Burgess upon his retirement subject to legal opinion whether such payment would be legal. Messrs. Campbell and Russell now forwarded their opinion that the payment would be illegal. Having left the service, Mr. W: H. Burgess must be deemed to hold the position of any other citizen, and payment to a citizen in such a case would not be legal; —lt was-resolved that in view of the legal opinion just read no further action should be taken on. the subjeot 'to which it related. |
